A sentence is a combination of words that gives us
a complete and logical idea about something.
"A group of words which makes a complete sense is called a Sentence"-Wren
Sentences are of five kinds. These are-

Assertive Sentence
- 2.
Interrogative Sentence
- 3.
Imperative Sentence
- 4.
Optative Sentence
- 5.
Exclamatory Sentence
1. Assertive or Declarative Sentence: A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is
called Assertive or Declarative Sentence.
As:↪India is a great country.
↪ God is good
↪ Ram walks in the morning.
Sentence Structure:
Subject+Verb+Object/Complement + Preposition,
others
I+ eat+ rice + at night
2. Interrogative Sentence: A sentence that asks a question is called Interrogative
Sentence.
As:↪Are you going to market?
↪ How are you?
↪ Who are you?
Sentence Structure:
Question begin with :wh-Words/Interrogative pronoun or Be Verb/Have Verb/Modal Verb/
or Do verb
Be verb are: Am, Is , Are
Have verb: Have,Has, Had ( Have they any vehicle?)
Modal verb: May, Do etc ( May I come in?)
Modal Auxiliary Verb: shall, should, will, would,can,could,may etc
Semi Modal Verb: need,dare,used to
Do verb: do,does,did
3. Imperative Sentence: A sentence that expresses a command, advice, request or entreaty is called an
Imperative Sentence.
As:↪Never tell a lie.
↪ Shut the window.
↪ Please give me the pen.
Sentence Structure:
a). verb+ object ( open the gate)
b.) Verb+where/adverbial (Go there, Run quickly)
Rule: subject is hidden. Verb is always in present tense
4. Optative Sentence: A sentence that expresses a prayer or a wish is called an optative
Sentence.
As:↪May God bless you.
↪ May his soul rest in peace.
↪ May you success in life
↪ Long live the Emperor. ( May is hidden here)
Sentence Structure:
May+ Subject+ verb+ object ( open the gate).
5. Exclamatory Sentence: A sentence that expresses some sudden feelings or
emotions of a mind is called Exclamatory Sentence .
As:↪Oh! what a nice picture it is.
↪ what a shame!
↪ Alas! Shyam is no more.
Sentence Structure:
Sentence Starts with Exclamatory words or Wh-words.
Any sentence is of two types depending on meaning(yes/agree or no/disagree):
a). Affirmative: A sentence that
affirms something is called an affirmative sentence.
as : He can walk.
He is ready to move
He was my friend
b). Negative: A sentence
that denies something is called an Negative sentence.
as: He can not walk.
He is not ready to move
He was not my friend
Negative sentence transformation Rules:
Rule 1:
If there is “Be-verb, have verb, shall, should, will,
would, will, would, may, might, can, could need, dare” present in Affirmative Sentence,
just put “not” after these verbs to make it Negative Sentence.
As
A: I can do this work.
N: I can not do this work.
A: He may come
N: He may not come.
Otherwise put “do/does/did not”
after the main verb.
As
A: Come here.
N: Do not come here.
A: Rabi walks fast.
N: Rabi does not walk fast.
( walks=does walk)
A: He told me.
N: He did not tell me.
(told= did tell)
Rule 3:
Use “no” before noun
As: Ram has no sister.
Use “not” before adjective
As: Kajal is not beautiful.
Rule
4:
Use "never" and "nothing" to make Negative Sentence.
AS: I never tell a lie.
Nothing can satisfy you.
